Project
You are the team leader in the despatch department of an office furniture supplier. An important customer has faxed through an urgent order which has been receipted by the customer service team. The picking team are currently processing the order. You have been advised of the order ahead of schedule by the warehouse supervisor, to give you time to plan all aspects required to successfully transport the freight.
Your warehouse is located in the western suburbs of Melbourne. The customer is based in Perth CBD. The order is a large boardroom table weighing 350 kilograms and 18 office chairs. The customer has requested the order as soon as possible.
You are to write a report covering the elements such as:
key considerations for planning the transportation of the freight (including legislative requirements)
- resource requirements
- communication and documentation requirements
- obstacles that might prohibit the order being transported efficiently and accurately and possible solutions to those problems
- mode/s or system of transportation methods chosen and why
- procedures for ensuring the load is correct and will be secured throughout transit
- monitoring processes to track the movement of the freight
- Once completed, submit the report to your trainer for assessment. (4-6 pages)
Part - 3 Apply knowledge of logistics

This project assesses the skills and knowledge required to analyse and apply knowledge of logistics. The application of this knowledge is required by people who are not currently specialists in the field but need the knowledge to inform their decision-making. The application of logistics knowledge is specific to a variety of component processes in logistical activities including the logistics support to operations, logistics support to capability and the application of logistics systems.
You need to select an industry sector and conduct the necessary research to write your report.
Write a 1,000 word report to address the following questions:
How can logistics requirements be identified and obtained?
Why is analysing logistics information necessary?
What should be done with the outcomes of the analysis of logistics information?
How should logistics requirements and recommendations relevant to work be applied?
