Paper/Writing Assignment -

The essay should focus on Immigration and economy of the US.

The purpose of this paper is to familiarize you with research methods in psychology and assess your critical thinking, writing, information literacy, and technological competency.

Step 1: Identify a relevant research topic in the field of psychology.

Step 2: Locate a peer-reviewed journal article that describes a scientific, quantitative research study related to the topic. The article must include a methods section and a results section (that is, it must describe an actual study, rather than being a theoretical or review article). This will be your primary source. The article should not be older than 10 years old. You can use the library databases to find the peer-reviewed journal article. MC website has a library tutorial on Finding Articles to learn how to use the library database

Step 3: Answer the following questions fully and completely, using complete and grammatically correct sentences. Be sure to explain your ideas fully and define your terms. Use APA style to document sources and for the format of the paper.

Step 4: Find at least 2 other sources on the topic to include in your paper. It may be your text book, another peer reviewed journal article or another source approved by your professor.

1. Citation in APA format: Provide a full citation of the articles and references you read, using APA format. Your paper should have an APA cover page. Also, include reference(s) at the end of your paper.

2. What was your research topic, and how does this article relate to that research topic? Describe the psychology research topic you were researching for this assignment. Use the scholarly article and sources to clearly describe the research topic. Clearly introduce your topic and sources.

3. What is the hypothesis of your primary source / peer reviewed journal article?

4. Describe what the researchers did to conduct the study in the primary source / peer reviewed journal article. Include in this section a description of the sample and methodology of the study. Be sure to identify what kind of research method was used (ex. survey, experiment, correlational study), the variables that were measured in the study, and any other relevant aspects of the methodology. [Hint: The methodology is described in the section titled "Method." Explain the methodology of the study well enough that someone who hasn't read the article will know what the researchers did.]

5. What did the researchers find? Describe the main results of the study in the primary peer reviewed journal article. [Hint: The results are described in the section titled "Results", "Findings" and then often summarized again in the section titled "Discussion."]

6. What do the results mean? Describe the main conclusions you would draw from this study in the primary source / peer reviewed journal article. [Hint: The researchers' conclusions are usually discussed in the section titled "Discussion.']

7. Describe how you would study the topic differently? If you were to do a study on the topic, describe what changes you would make and why these changes would improve the study. You may include suggestions offered by your primary source / peer reviewed journal article.
