Overview

The final project for this course is the creation of a case study analysis. You will select one of two case studies to analyze, identifying its positive and negative events and providing high-level recommendations to solve identified and potential issues.

The final product represents an authentic demonstration of competency because the management of projects is essential to the success of business initiatives.

It is likely you will be involved in a project as team members or stakeholders at some point in your career; therefore, it is important that you understand what project management is, how it works, and what language you should use to communicate project progress and plans.

Having a basic understanding of the various methodologies will also make you flexible and capable of using the most appropriate techniques for different project situations.

The project is divided into two milestones, which will be submitted at various points throughout the course to scaffold learning and ensure quality final submissions. These milestones will be submitted in Modules Three and Five. The final product will be submitted in Module Seven.

In this assignment, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following course outcomes:

• Determine appropriate application of project management methodologies based on key project factors

• Analyze the management of real world projects and operations for identifying potential improvements

• Analyze projects in terms of how the knowledge areas and process groups of project management are used

• Analyze communication and collaboration strategies for their use in managing projects with multiple stakeholders.

For the final project, you will select a case study to analyze, identify its positive and negative events, and provide high-level recommendations to solve identified and potential issues.

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

I. Introduction: Provide a summary of the case. Describe the situation, the stakeholders, the critical events, and the project of the case study.

II. Analysis: Analyze the case and include the following components.

a. Identify the project management methodology used in the case and explain the characteristics of the project that indicate the methodology.

b. Identify areas of success in the management of the project. Be specific and reference the case study in support of your analysis.

c. Identify issues or potential issues with how the project management is being conducted. Explain your reasoning using examples from the case study.

d. Build a complete stakeholder register for the case study project using the provided template. Your register should identify all necessary stakeholders and highlight key stakeholders.

e. Using your stakeholder register, calculate and diagram the communication channels the project manager will use for key stakeholders and remaining stakeholders.

f. Using examples from the case study, differentiate between key and remaining stakeholder channels and discuss the potential struggles that might be faced by each.

g. Select two collaboration and communication strategies you could use to address potential challenges communicating with various stakeholders based on your communication channels. Explain the reasoning for your selections.

III. PMI (Project Management Institute®)

a. Provide a brief description of how the project approaches each of the ten PMI knowledge areas. In other words, describe the knowledge areas in terms of how they are used in the project in the case study.

b. Analyze the case study project and briefly discuss the project in terms of how the five process groups are applied.

c. Identify where knowledge areas or process groups are approached unsuccessfully and explain your reasoning using examples from the case study.

IV. Recommendations

a. Considering the methodology used in the case, recommend an alternative methodology that may have been more appropriate. Be sure to identify the specific elements of the case to support your recommendation.

b. Identify potential improvements you would have made if you were project manager, based on your analysis of the case.

Milestones

Milestone One: Introduction, Methodology, Successes, Failures, and Process Groups In Module Three, you will create an introduction for your case study analysis, analyze specific elements of the case, and relate the case study to the PMBOK® Process Groups. This milestone will be graded with the Milestone One Rubric.

Milestone Two: Stakeholder Analysis, PMBOK® Knowledge Areas, and Potential Improvements In Module Five, you will continue your case study analysis and address topics ranging from stakeholder analysis to PMBOK® knowledge areas. This milestone will be graded with the

Milestone Two Rubric. Final Submission: Final Project In Module Seven, you will submit your final project. It should be a complete, polished artifact containing all of the critical elements of the final product. It should reflect the incorporation of feedback gained throughout the course. Guidelines for Submission:

Your case study analysis should be 5-7 pages in length, not including the cover page and references page. It should be formatted with 12-point Times New Roman font, double spacing, one-inch margins, and all citations and references should be formatted according to APA guidelines.
