Original Discussion Thread

Information systems security has become one of the world's critical concerns in the wake of technological advancement that places information at the risk of breaching. This happens mostly through cyber-attacks. In this case, forces outside or inside taskforce circles unnoticed manage to gain access to protected data or crucial information of an individual or even organizations.

Dr. Koonjbearry's idea that the chances are high that information security situation will only worsen; captures the current trends whereby there are escalating cases of malicious interference with information. His argument was entirely since data infrastructures were not designed to be security networks meaning that what we share regarding information will never remain to be confidential. However, people have continued to use these infrastructures to channel sensitive details hence creating a security lapse.

According to Valacich (2015) with the growing world and emergence of the internet that allows sharing of different forms of information on activities like the business, how we manage the information at our dispensation affects every point of our endeavors. Though the essence of exchanging ideas is important, how we do it matters. If we want to realize success, it is of equal responsibility to rethink on how to safeguard our information.

Koonjbearry's ideas were authentic because new and more sophisticated cases of companies losing data are often reported. This occurred because they lacked the necessary and suitable mechanisms and procedures for guarding their data. Security systems can be caused by some factors like instances of system wearing out or even because of malware which is hard to eradicate (Ivy, 2015).

It is close to negligence, if we fail to take Dr. Koonjbearry's ideas seriously. Information security should be handled as a matter of impact on different human endeavors and therefore addressed fully. If we think of success in our businesses or other entities, proper data and information management should be guaranteed.

Question

You write that companies are losing data because "...they lacked the necessary and suitable mechanisms and procedures for guarding their data." I would venture to say that most companies rely on security firms or systems that advertise the top-end in security products and services. Experian is a well-know and trusted (until recently) security company charged with securing the data of millions (including me). Yet, their systems were compromised, and millions of people's data was compromised.

If it can happen to them, and Facebook, and Home Depot, and Target and other trusted corporations, is there really a necessary and suitable mechanism or procedure available? Or do we need to start over?
