Online Assessment

Discussion boards, collaborative Web 2.0 activities, group projects, and individual assignments delivered through various technology tools provide numerous opportunities for online instructors to assess student learning.

It is important that online assessments effectively measure students' current level of content mastery and/or skills.

As covered last week, assessments are also an important instructional design consideration because they are one strategy for preventing academic dishonesty.

For this Discussion, consider the role of assessment in the instructional design process for online course development.

Write a one page paper on your position on Reeves's (2006) statement that assessment is the "lifeblood of good teaching" (p. 300). Justify your position.

Then, explain what it means for an assessment to be "aligned" with other elements of an online course (e.g., learning objectives, instructional strategies). Be specific and provide support from the Learning Resources and scholarly literature.
