One potential negative to teamwork is social loafing. Social loafing is "the conscious or unconscious tendency by some team members to shirk responsibilities by withholding effort toward group goals when they are not individually accountable for their work" (Lussier & Achua, 2013, p. 281). I've worked on school related projects where a group member has slacked off or hasn't completed their portion of the work because they figured someone else would do it if they didn't. This is frustrating for the participating team members and can certainly cause animosity between members.

Class, do you like working as part of a team or would you prefer to work on your own? Why?
