One particular ad that stands out in my mind is a Television commercial by Dove, where women of all size, shape and color present the product. What's different about this ad is it strays from the usual stick thin model in questionable or suggestive clothing promoting a product, and instead opts for real people. I think this was a great example of a company fighting negative biases of our culture: It goes against the unhealthy body image stereotypes usually associated with models. This also shows a lot of truth, rather than attempting to sell something based on a loose truth this ad brings a realistic portrayal of women. A print ad I looked at featured 100% whole wheat bread. I felt this ad was a great example of a product ad being so generic that it can't offend: it simply has a large picture of a sandwich filled with lunch meat, cheese, and lettuce, and a small description of the product. Keeping a product ad simple is key, as well as featuring pictures of the product itself is important in keeping a generic ad. Those ads many consider offensive (both in print and TV) actually have images of things not even associated with the product, and the storyline has little to do with the product either. Since the image and description has to do mostly with the product, it brings an element of truth to the ad, because it is in it's raw form. A website that sells products that I use often is Amazon.com. I believe Amazon uses a lot of truth in its advertising as it features unbiased user reviews of the products. I feel this is a great way to sell a product especially if the reviews are positive, the products are always displayed tastefully (not surrounded by models or actors, and not overwhelmed by distracting graphics).

How would this ad have changed if men were the targeted audience?

Please respond with at least 50 words. Thanks
