One of the roles of your centre is to provide primary health care to recently arrived immigrant groups. Clients of your service do not have private health insurance and need to access health services. Many of these people come from countries that have very different models of health care to Australia. For some the concept of private insurance or universal insurance for the population is difficult to understand. The clients of the service are often unsure of how to access Australian health services and are distrustful of western style medicine.

Your primary role is to provide primary health care. Your centre is often the first point of contact for the migrant community in your district. Clients come to the centre with health issues are reviewed by the medical staff and referred onto other services when required, Enrolled Nurses in conjunction with registered Nurses, implement the treatment plan and provide education on other health services within the district. The centre provides a well baby and immunisation clinic as well as support groups for people with chronic illness and issues associated to the Australian culture. Regular health assessment and wound clinics are run by the nursing staff for clients who have been discharged from hospital.

The nursing team also works within the multidisciplinary team in addressing other issues of the clients including housing, education, finance and employment. The multidisciplinary team liaises with other community organisations such as domiciliary care and meals on wheels.
