Objective:

You are encouraged to see the role of a project manager within the broader perspective of strategic business management, understanding where projects come from and why they are selected.

Tasks: Read the following tasks, understand and present your response in a document not more than 10 to 12 pages.

Assume that you are a project manager of technical projects in an IT company. The projects typically include development of systems or dealing with hardware and networking projects

Consider that as a part of a new project, you have to prepare an initial report focusing on project scope and other influential factors. You are required to explore the wider concepts of project management to prepare the report.

Task

a. Submit a work proposal for this assignment by the end of week 6 with the following.
- Understanding of deliverables - a detail description of deliverables (4 marks)
- General overview of proposed plan - initial understanding of solution to task b, c ,d and e
- Resources identified
The work proposal must be submitted in a word file through the link available in Moodle.

b. Write a scope statement for the selected project. [Your scope statement must include the details of stakeholders. It must focus on objectives or goals, and constraints on resources or time. The deliverables for the project need to be clearly identified within the scope statement. Cost estimates for the project should also be included in the scope statement.]

You can read the article "Improve Project Success with Better Scope Management" by Avneet Mathur which highlights the key aspects needed to consider while capturing the scope of the project.

c. Having a talented project manager is the first step to actual project success, but there are other important factors that contribute largely to a project's outcome. It takes careful planning, attention to detail and effective communication to make a project succeed. Critically analyze the factors which can contribute to your project outcome and discuss how you manage those factors to take your project to achieve the intended goal.

d. Discuss the influence of your project on the society/organization. Critically evaluate the ethical challenges you may have to face as a part of this project.

e. . Conduct a study on usage of any project management tool (other than MS project) for a particular project. Present a synopsis which contains the details of how the tool helped in various project management activities for the particular project. Provide evidence to support

your discussion. The synopsis should not be more than one page and should be competently presented. Any referenced extra resource should be added as appendix.

Students are expected to write this assignment from the PM's perspective

Students can take any project of their choice (Those who are doing the project planning they can take the same project for SPM also others have to get the approval from the respective module instructors) to discuss about the scope.

Students have to map every objectives with some kind of social relevance . How every objective can attain some social impact

Guidelines:

i. The assignment should not be more than 10 to 12 pages in (size A4) paper.

ii. The document should be well presented and neatly done.

iii. Assignment should be computer typed using Calibri 12 font and the soft copy should be submitted through Moodle.

iv. The report must have a Title Page, table of contents (optional), reference/ bibliography

v. and page number. Every page must have header & footer.

vi. Heading should be with Font Size 14, Bold, and Underline.

vii. Each student has to do the assignment individually.

viii. You are welcome to discuss about the assignment with the lecturer in his/her office hours.
