Objective:

You are encouraged to see the role of a project manager within the broader perspective of strategic business management, understanding where projects come from and why they are selected.

Outcomes:

1. Identify and explain the changing social and organizational effects, on both individuals and society as a whole, of information systems and technology projects.

2. Evaluate the tools and techniques that need to be applied for the effective and successful implementation of a computer based project

Tasks: Read the following tasks, understand and present your response in a document not more than 10 to 12 pages.

Assume that you are a project manager of technical projects in an IT company. These projects typically include development of:
- Management information Systems
- HR Systems
- Hospital Management Systems
- Banking Information Systems
- Inventory Management Systems
- Payroll Systems
- Analyzing and Designing a Computer Network
- Design & Implementation of a secure communication system for reduced complexity
- Development of Network Traffic Classification Based Approach for Detection

Choose any one of the above or any other Systems Development project of your liking (if you are choosing any other system, prior approval from your faculty need to be taken) which you would like to head and complete the tasks given:

Task

a. Submit a work proposal for this assignment by the end of 14th November 2016 which must include: (10 marks)
- Understanding of deliverables - a detail description of deliverables
- General overview of proposed plan - initial understanding of solution to task b, c ,d and e
- Resources identified

The work proposal must be submitted in a word file through the link available in Moodle.

b. Write a scope statement for the selected project. Your scope statement must include
- Specific Objectives
- Project Budget
- TimeLine
- Proposed technology that will used in the project/Adequate technology that will be used

You can read the article "Improve Project Success with Better Scope Management" by Avneet Mathur which highlights the key aspects needed to consider while capturing the scope of the project.

c. As a Project Manager analyze the factors that is needed to maintain High Quality Management throughout project development.

d. Recognize the influence of the selected project on the society/organization. Your discussion can focus on the following questions: What benefits project can bring to society/organization? Does the project promote ethical standards?

e. Identify any two Project Management software (excluding MS-Project) and present a synopsis showing a comparison between the two. Highlight the strengths and weakness of the PM tools under consideration in your own words. Provide evidence to support your discussion. The synopsis should not be more than one page and should be competently presented. Any referenced extra resource should be added as appendix.

Guidelines:

i. The assignment should not be more than 10 to 12 pages in (size A4) paper.
ii. The document should be well presented and neatly done.
iii. Assignment should be computer typed using Calibri 12 font and the soft copy should be submitted through Moodle.
iv. The report must have a Title Page, table of contents (optional), reference/ bibliography
v. and page number. Every page must have header & footer.
vi. Heading should be with Font Size 14, Bold, and Underline.
vii. Each student has to do the assignment individually.
viii. You are welcome to discuss about the assignment with the lecturer in his/her office hours.
