Objectives:

Identify various forms of business structure

Prompt: In 250 words, what is the difference between a corporation, a sole proprietorship and a limited liability company? Review Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission 558 U.S. 310 (2010).

Focus on the First Amendment arguments. What are they? Should a business have the same First Amendment rights as individuals? Incorporate the material from the required readings along with scholarly outside research. All sources used must be cited. Please review the grading rubric that is posted in the class announcements.

This assignment requires you to read the material listed in the required readings in the lessons section. You will then need to apply what you read in your discussions and assignments Also apply terms. Although it may be tempting to bypass the readings and look up the terms online, you won't successfully complete this class by doing so. Why? Because legal terms don't always mean the same in an online dictionary as they do in a legal context. Another major problem is that there is plenty of bad legal advice available online. And a third is that legal terms and laws themselves are different from state to state and between jurisdictions. That's why the materials for this class have been specifically chosen so that we are all getting the same basic foundation in this business law class and we are all talking about the same thing in the discussions and assignments.

APA formatting and demonstrate critical thinking. This means that when you are using the material from those required sources we just talked about, you need to cite them in APA format. If you don't understand APA formatting, don't despair, as there are plenty of sources that will help you. A great one to start with. All material must be appropriately cited with an in-text citation (author, date) and a reference page listing.

You'll also need to demonstrate critical thinking throughout this class. This means you need to read the material, and then apply what you read in the discussions and in your essays. Using the course materials and applying your critical thinking skills are a large part of your grade on the assignments. In fact, failing to do this will result in you not earning a passing grade in this class.
