OBJECTIVE & PURPOSE:

The purpose of this assignment is for students to research about information systems that support global business, and collaboration among stakeholders today.

You will be discussing key strategies, and practices related to the use of emerging information system in the workplace. Also, you will be conducting an e-library search and identifying peer- review articles related to information systems.

DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENT:

In this report, you're asked to:

1) Prepare an Abstract (between 150 and 250 words) that will provide an overview of the whole research report.

2) Choose a company that you are currently working for or have worked for in the past. You may also choose a small home business, a family business, or even a charitable organization that you are or have been involved with.

a) Describe the business strategy in your own words. (Background of the organization, industry, years in existence, number of employees, SWOT analysis, etc. you may use Web sources such as the company's homepage, but ensure not to excessively quote!) - about 3-4 paragraphs.

b) Describe the organizational strategy in your own words (i.e. organizational structure, culture, decision rights, etc. you may want to include an organizational chart,) - about 3-4 paragraphs.

c) Describe the technology strategy. (List as best as you can the primary hardware, software, networking, data, IT services, etc) - about 3-4 paragraphs.

d) Describe the relationship between the business strategy, organizational strategy, and the technology strategy. In your opinion: is there a good alignment between the two, provide two examples to support your answer - about 2-3 paragraphs.

e) Why is it important for business strategy to drive organizational strategy and IS strategy? What might happen if business strategy was not the driver? Provide an example to illustrate such instance or case. Include a minimum of two cited sources of information (one industry source and one peer-review academic source) - about 3-4 paragraphs.

3) A recent report in CIO magazine predicts Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) as the 2014 trend. Conduct a feasibility study by following the questions below:

a) Develop one page summary about BYOD and its implications to companies in general. Include a minimum of two cited sources of information (one industry source and one peer-review academic source).

b) Interview three employees at your organization, one employee at an entry level that has been with the organization at least six months, one employee at a middle management level that has been with the organization at least six months, and one employee at a senior management level that has been with the organization at least six months. (You may opt to interview more than one employee in each category). *Use the Excel file provided in this post to input your data.

Ask the employees their rating of the following 1-5 statements using the scale of 1- 7:

i) Using BYOD in our organization help employees to be more effective in their work assignment.

ii) Employees in our company use their own device for non-work related personal communication during work hours (i.e. emails, texting, video conferencing, etc.).

iii) Employees in our company use their own device for non-work related web browsing during work hours.

iv) Employees in our company use their own device for non-work related Personal Shopping during work hours.

v) Employees in our company use their own device for non-work related Personal social media during work hours.

c) Open ended short questions:

i) What is your perception about the contribution of BOYD to employees' efficiencies in work tasks?

ii) What is your perception about the contribution of BOYD to Cyber-slacking, does it detract from the efficiencies mentioned?

iii) What is your perception about the contribution of BOYD to potential security breaches?
