After you eat, is all glucose available in the blood stream for metabolism? What chemicals regulate blood glucose levels? What is the chemical composition of these regulatory chemicals? Label and identify the classes of macromolecules that compose these chemicals? What is the term to describe this type of regulatory chemical?
Describe the process by which high blood sugar levels are lowered and low blood sugar levels are raised. Include the chemicals and organs involved.
Describe the condition that results when the body fails to regulate blood sugar levels.
Finally, observe this animation on the role of enzymes in digestion and nutrition. List the enzymes related to the digestion of each macromolecule: carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and nucleic acids. Use this chart as a reference. Describe the difference between the enzymes used in digestion, and the hormones that regulate blood glucose levels discussed above.
