Need to respond to this discussion post in refernce to Engineer's Who Kill by Kenneth Kipnis.....

Only need a paragraph or two, here it is>>
Kipnis' First Principle is as follows:
Engineers shall not participate in projects that degrade ambient levels of public safety unless information concerning those degradations is made generally available.

Is it just me or just this Principle just seem to loose?  It makes it sound like if you want to work on something that could potentially harm the public, just provide the public with information and then it's fine and dandy.  Obviously the Second Principle alleviates my concern a bit, as it states that engineers shall not violate accepted stands of conduct when the safety of the public is at risk.  But this still doesn't provide a guideline as to what you can and cannot do in terms of degrading public safety.  I wouldn't be too happy if I found that engineer's were now putting holes in bridges to reduce costs, even if they provided me the information.

I have no suggestion how to do it at this time, but I just feel that both Principles, but especially the first, could have been worded much better to convey that engineers shall not degrade public safety unless absolutely necessary.
