Need help on this response:Perfume does alter Schmid's argument that murderers often kill women out of fear or hatred. In Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, Grenouille has no feelings and no emotions. He was not really interested in any of the women he killed, rather he was intrigued by their scent and sought to preserve it. For instance, in the movie, Grenouille seeks to retrieve the scent of the woman he pays, however she finds it very odd that he is putting animal fat on her arm. When the women does not cooperate, Grenouille kills her and finishes his mission of retrieving her scent. I honestly do not believe Grenouille would have killed anyone if they would have just been willing to cooperate so he could make perfume with their scent. The first murder he committed was an accident, yet this is how his murders began. He was so amazed by the woman's scent, that he accidentally killed her. I do feel that Grenouille may have become annoyed and frustrated when the women would not give him the time of day, which may have led him to develop a hatred of the women theirselves, even though he loved their scents. However, I do not feel that Grenouille ever had feelings in this story/movie, and solely was intrigued by human scent because of his keen sense of smell. Once Grenouille was able to capture the scent, he went crazy.
