Can an old dog learn new skills?

Joseph posted

This assessment was both what I expected and surprising at the same time.

I concur with the results in my high scores on increasing authority and the personal characteristics of Expertise and the position characteristic of flexibility. In any situation, I strive to listen to the experts. I want to be knowledgeable in the area before influencing others to follow a course of action.

I feel I am flexible in my decision making too. I will take into account strong reason or points of view based on what the known facts are available. In this way, I try to manage conflicts so that even if you don't totally agree with a decision you can at least understand the reason behind my decision and feel that our voice was heard-compromising. (Shearouse, 2011)

I was disappointed in my overall score. I ended up in the third quartile. I assumed I would be higher. I assumed I was displaying the best management style for handling conflicts. Maybe I am reflecting more avoiding and accommodating than I think I actually do in real life.

This assessment gives me something to think about. Can an old dog learn new skills?
