Mohandas K. Gandhi was a great champion of compassion whose nonviolent campaign convinced the British to leave India with little bloodshed and loss of life. He was assassinated by a fellow Hindu for loving his enemies because he negotiated with leaders of the Muslim community in India whom most Hindus considered the enemy. Is this great political and spiritual leader now in heaven with God? What is the Catholic position on whether non-Christians like Gandhi can be saved and redeemed? Does it make sense to you?
