Module Activity : Childhood Reflections

After reading the Lareau article, reflect on your own childhood. Write a response to the following questions (about a paragraph for each question), and submit your reflection by Thursday:

1. Do you think your parents/guardians relied more on a natural growth or a concerted cultivation approach to parenting you? Give some details about how you were raised, and directly explain how these details correspond to one of the parenting approaches.

2. Do you think there was a relationship between the childrearing approach your family used and social class? Explain why or why not.

3. What effects (positive and/or negative) do you think your family's childrearing approach had on the development of your own identity and opportunities?
