Some of the challenges described in this reading include access to full citizenship rights, housing, finance/employment, family reintegration, substance abuse/mental health illness, access to benefits, and supervision are some of the key challenge areas.

Assessment is the first step and a very critical part of the reentry process. Utilizing a strength-based approach while conducting assessment is key to the successful assessment of a client's needs.

A strength-based approach involves remaining positive and identifying talents, skills, and interests.
