Problem: An obvious place to look for explanations for booksellers' struggles is the electronic book, or "e-book". However, e-books would presumably impact all booksellers to the same degree. Yet traditional booksellers are struggling more than either big box retailers, or local/independent booksellers. There must therefore be something more to the story of what's happening in book retailing.

Question: Employ a population ecology perspective to explain why traditional booksellers specifically are struggling to survive. That is, explain the properties of the social space in which traditional booksellers are attempting to compete, and why traditional booksellers' blueprint does not "fit". Explain your answer and provide examples.
