Long Research Paper Assignment Write a 2000- 2500 word (8-10 paged) paper that EXPANDS your discussion of automation in your field. (You can choose to build upon you Synthesis Paper, or you can start from scratch with a new automation paper.)

For example, you may wish to look at more processes that have been automated through the use of software, computers, or other technological advancements. You may wish to explore in greater depth how that has impacted research or careers in your future industry.

As the paper proceeds (concludes), please be sure to give your reader a glimpse into where your industry may be going in the future as a result of automation: do authors feel that your industry may be disappearing, evolving into something  else, or blossoming?

In research, it is most helpful to have a question for which one seeks an answer, preferably not with a simple "yes" or "no," for example, how will advances in solar energy development bring about the end of the coal-mining industry? That kind of question should be at the heart of your research, and even become your research question itself.

For your paper, you will work to formulate a question, conduct reading research (what is known as a "literature review") to find multiple answers to your question, and write about your findings. Once you think of an initial research question, you do not have to stick with it.

However, choosing one will help to guide your research. This assignment will be an APA style research paper, where the 2000-2500 words form the BODY of the essay devoted to writing about automation in your field. In addition to the body of the essay, an APA-formatted Title Page, Abstract, and Annotated Bibliography pages are also required. Eight or more references must be cited to fulfill this assignment. At least four of the references must be from a scholarly publication in your

The essay should be in Times New Roman 12 point font, double-spaced lines. (Please select "Remove Space After Paragraph" to avoid triple spaced lines.)

This assignment is an opportunity to learn how to gather information from multiple forms of media, such as books in print, books online, journals, news outlets, video, personal interviews, etc. It is also a way to learn how to evaluate the quality and reliability of the sources chosen.

You are, of course, welcome to go to the library to read books on the subject. Since this may prove to be a longer process than just getting information online, please start searching for reliable sources as soon as possible. Keep close track of why you select each reference as you will need to provide that information for the Annotated Bibliography. The Annotated Bibliography At the end of the long research paper, you will add an Annotated Bibliography (in place of the regular References page), which is an expanded version of the standard References page.

This new bibliography has the same kind of reference entries, but with each entry comes several sentences of information about that source. For each of your reference entries, I want you to write at least a three sentence paragraph that summarizes that particular source and its relevance to your research topic.

Please see section 52f (pages 565-568) of The Bedford Handbook for an explanation and example of an Annotated Bibliography. Do not submit this as a separate paper.
