Leadership: Discuss the Path-Goal Theory, The Great Man Theory

1. Explain the following statement and support your response with references.

Path-Goal Theory. Robert House (1960) model: A leader must first assess the relevant factors in the organization and then select one of the four leadership styles that fits those contingency factors best: (a) directive, (b) supportive, (c) achievement-oriented and (d) participative. A key element in the leader's choice of style is their expectations about how others will respond to them. This is a trend away from behaviorism and toward a more detailed examination of the thought processes which guide actions.

2. Elaborate:

The great man theory mandates that leaders are born rather than made and that class position, rather than behavior, evaluate the leader. What are thoughts? Support your response with references.
