Kathy is a good friend. You socialize frequently, your kids play together and you think she has a lot to offer your organization. As a senior manager in your division, you participate in staff meetings to discuss the performance and potential opportunities for individuals in that division. At those meetings, it is apparent that your peers, including Kath's boss, think that Kath's performance is okay, but don't see her as having potential to move any higher in the organization. As Kathy's friend, you know her better and believe they are wrong.
