14. In 2002, the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act made important changes in our campaign finance laws. It sought to ban soft money, limit independent expenditures by groups, and limit individual contributions. Over time, the Supreme Court has struck down parts of hat law. It has upheld limits on campaign contributions to candidates but has allowed unlimited spending to influence elections as long as those contributions don't work in coordination with a candidate's campaign. Why? How has the Court viewed Campaign Contributions?
