Duties: As a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Veteran Benefits Administration you will:

• Manage vocational rehabilitation counseling and case management workload involving persons with a wide variety of conditions and in differing environments.
• Make vocational rehabilitation eligibility determinations, assessments using a variety of resources; referral and networking skills, and knowledge of job markets and job placement.
• Plan, manage, evaluate, and demonstrate organizational skills and time management.
• Synthesize information from diagnostic testing and medical records, and presents an overall picture of strengths, limitations, capabilities, and interests to assist individuals in developing a suitable job or independent living goal.
• Identify physical, emotional, intellectual, personal adjustment, or other factors that may interfere with training by analyzing data about the Veteran.
• Demonstrate an understanding and the workings of phychometric evaluations, neuro-psychological evaluations, orthopedic evaluations, and other medical assessments used to provide a diagnosis of the disability and information regarding clients interests, aptitudes, achievements levels, functional capacities, and transferable skills.
• Conduct presentations to include charts, slides, graphs for groups, committees, and clients to education on the employment of the disabled.
• Complete case narratives to document client meeting via written correspondence or computer files.
• Prepare written correspondence to explain appeal rights, to help train facilities, and clients/Veterans and stakeholders about assisting individuals with disabilities to obtain employment.
• Prepare individual Written Rehabilitation Plans, Individual Employment Assistance Plans, Individual Extended Evaluation Plans, and Individual Independent Living Plans (IWRP, EIAP, IILP) to eliminate or resolve impediments to employment.
• Prepare administrative reports, feeder reports, or other reporting requirements to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of a vocational rehabilitation program's services.
• Deliver group and individual vocational rehabilitation counseling sessions.
• Coordinate referrals to other agencies and training programs.
• Consult with physicians, physical therapists, and other medical/psychological providers to obtain objective documentation regarding rehabilitation services.
• Develop an extensive network of job placement resources and an understanding of local labor market issues, to assist in the placement of clients.
