James is the owner of four upscale grocery stores in his city that is well known for his outstanding customer service and satisfied employees. Before the arrival of a new store, big-box mega-store, James had little to no competition. With the arrival of the new retail establishment, James worries that he will lose his current customers as they will start purchasing from the new store in town.

James goal is to pay his employees better by increasing his minimum wage to $15 an hour. However, this can become a huge problem for James because he will not be able to afford to give his employees their increases and will lose out on a lot of profit. Without his businesses making reasonable profit gains to increase employee’s wages, James will not only lose out on revenue but his employee’s will possibly flee away to a higher paying retailer.
