It is essential that you have a solid grounding in the academic theories of investing. In your final assignment, compare and contrast the academic theories of investing covered in your required readings with the philosophies of three of the world's greatest investors:

  • Berkshire Hathaway's Warren Buffett
  • Capital Growth Management's Ken Heebner Third Avenue Value Fund portfolio manager, Martin J. (Marty) Whitman.

A $10,000 investment in Berkshire Hathaway in 1965 would be worth nearly $30 million today. In comparison, $10,000 in the S&P 500 would have risen to roughly $500,000. Marty Whitman also has had phenomenal success in investing using some of the same strategies as those used by Buffett. Ken Heebner has been very successful and focuses on growth investing instead of value investing. In your examination of investment philosophies, make sure that, at a minimum, you look at these famous successful investors' theories of diversification and beta and growth vs. value investing and compare them to theories presented in your readings, especially the primary textbook.

Create a PowerPoint presentation or MS Movie to show your results suitable for an audience of future investment and financial management professionals. These audience members could be businessmen or women already, or even undergraduate students in a financial management course or program. Use your creativity in developing an informative presentation.

Support your presentation with at least five (5) scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included. Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style where appropriate.

PowerPoint Option

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, graphics, and "speaker notes" for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide).

Notes Length: 100-150 words for each slide.
