A simple error can be the reason why you miss the highly coveted position. It is therefore important to have the tips that that will sail you through the interview without much struggle. What makes most people flop in an interview is the anticipation they have. Being in a new position, and new people who are ready to bore holes into your CV to prove you incapacitated for the position, the experience can be nerve-racking. However, the point many people miss is that the most basic aspects such as etiquette and common sense can be the reason you fail in the interview. When that moment of truth between the applicant and employer comes these are some of the things you should consider.

Prior Preparation

An interview will be successful if the applicant prepares in abundance before he gets to the hot seat to face the panel. Much of the preparation is done to portray a good image of the applicant and to boost the psychological preparedness to the situation. If it's a company, ensure that you research abundantly about it. Know about its strengths, shortcomings and the specific position that you will be hired. This way you will be able to arm yourself with correct answers if the panel asks you why you feel the company needs your services. It is also important to research about the person or the panel who will be interviewing you. In some situations, it is possible to have access to some people who have inside information about the company. Those people will be of invaluable importance as they can give you a hint of the questions you may expect and the criteria that may be used to grade your performance in the interview. Be ready to answer common questions such as ‘Why you should be hired?', ‘what's your biggest failure?' etc.

The Resume

The resume is the first document that gives an impression of the applicant to the employer. Ensure that all the information provided in the resume is true. This should start with the personal details, the education background, achievements and job experience. In most instances, applicants use false information which a good employer will be in a position to unravel. Ensure that you include all your details in the resume. On top of that it is good to review it a number of times before the interview to ensure that you are aware of any information contained in it. It's that way that you will be in a position to address any question arising from it from the employer. The employer mainly uses the resume to ask various questions on qualification and performance, therefore take your time to ensure its fixed well. You also need to have a printed resume as your copy.

Dressing

Everyone will tell you to dress in a suit and tie while attending an interview. However, in some situations you may be so uncomfortable in that that you need to solicit for an equally official outfit that will not compromise your image. It's good to try something and engage some of your friends or family members on their opinion. This way you will have a chance to choose the best.

Punctuality

Arriving for the interview at the right time is so important. It is good to arrive early enough before the stage is set. At times, one may be lucky enough to interact with some of the interviewers before the interview. This can greatly increase your prospects for the position. This maybe the edge you get above your competitors for the same position. Look jovial, relaxed and determined if you have a chance to interact with the employer or interviewing panel.

During the Interview

Just before the interview, it's funny to say but one should visit the washrooms and have some really deep breaths as well as relieving one self. This really helps in easing the stress and tension. During the interview; - Listen. Take your time to listen carefully. Don't be in panic or too much haste to respond to the questions. Being composed ensures your response is well thought. At times, the interviewer may throw you off balance by asking a very common question, maybe about the weather, or about yourself, be composed to answer it. Be yourself. Don't fake your personality, though it's not good to hyper act. Chances will be that in case you fake yourself, you will reveal your real self later and you may lose the job. Avoid negativity. Avoid using negative language. The employer may ask you about your previous job. Don't make the mistake of criticizing the employer. Your flaws. You should know your flaws. Try to conceal them to avoid losing the chance.
