Introduction to Health Psychology

Attending live Seminars is important to your academic success, and attendance is highly recommended. The Seminar allows you to review the important concepts presented in each unit, discuss work issues in your lives that pertain to these concepts, ask your instructor questions, and allow you to come together in real time with your fellow classmates. There will be a graded Seminar in Units 1 through 9 in this course. You must either attend the live Seminar or you must complete the Seminar alternativeassignment in order to earn points for this part of the class.

This week, you will be introduced to the course and its policies, and you will discuss how the mind and body interact in illness and health. Come prepared to discuss the following questions:

We are beginning to link psychology to health. What methodologies are used in health psychology to prove this link? What are the reasons you need studies in health psychology? How have views of health changed?

Make sure you have read this week's required readings in our textbook, which will help you to answer these questions in seminar.

Complete one of the following options below:

Option 1: Participate in a synchronous discussion.

Option 2: Complete the alternative assignment.

You will benefit most from completing Seminar Option 1. However, if you are unable to attend you have the opportunity to make up the points by listening to the Seminar archive and writing a paper summarizing the Seminar. You should create your paper in Microsoft Word and your work should be formatted in APA style. Your paper should be composed in complete sentences and paragraphs and be at least 500 words in length. You should submit your work to the Unit 1: Seminar Dropbox by the end of the unit.
