INTERVIEW RESEARCH ASSIGNMENTFor this assignment, you will conduct an information gathering interview with a hiring manager in your prospective field. After your interview, you will write an essay detailing the research you conducted alongside reflecting on the interview you conducted.
In order to get started, you will need to do the following:
Find an individual working in your field that has full or partial responsibility in hiring decisions. Call this person and set up and interview. Do not select a family member or friend.
Research your company.
Prepare at least 10 questions to ask the person interviewing you. Turn in these questions with your final paper. Your questions mustreflect the research you have completed about your company.
Complete the interview. Do your homework and go into the interview with background knowledge. This knowledge should come from your company's website and industry information. Be prepared to ask questions as well as to answer them.
Follow the interview techniques in the textbook (from chapter 16). Write a few paragraphs stating your strategy for this interview (from chapter 16) and include this with your final paper.
We will spend class time practicing a mock interview as well as discussing what to do, what not to do, and what you should wear.
Have the person conducting the interview fill out and sign the evaluation form.
Finally, write about your experience.
What is Expected:
Your writing should consist of a 6-8 page typed reflection / researched essay and must contain an introduction, body, and conclusion.
Additionally, your essay should include information and explanations that answer the following questions:
What you did you do to prepare for this interview? What was your strategy for research? What questions did you have before you went to the library or Internet to start your search? Why did you select this company?
How did you select the person you are interviewing?
What you were thinking before, during, and after the interview?
What happened during the interview? Give specific examples of the questions you asked, how the person answered, and your responses or thoughts.
How did you conclude the interview?
What did you think of this entire process, including the interviewee's evaluation?
Include a reference page and an annotated bibliography with your work. Remember, this is to be in APA style.
Please organize your paper in the following order:
1.) Cover sheet
2.) Introduction and Background research
3.) Detail the interview-- what did you ask and how did they answer? You don't have to include all the questions you asked... just the important ones.
4.) Evaluate- what did you think about the project and the interview?
Did you learn anything new? Were you surprised by anything you heard?
Notes:Spend most of your time on numbers 2 and 4.The Evaluation Sheet must be SIGNED by the person you interview.
