Purpose-

The purpose of the internship program is to prepare majors in marketing and fashion marketing to utilize the knowledge gained from their classroom experiences in an on;the;job setting.  The welding of academic preparation to that learned during the internship should prepare the graduate to enter the job market at an executive training or an entry mid;management level.

Objectives of the Internship Program-

• To gain professional on;the;job experiences that will enhance and complement academic instruction.
• To explore career opportunities, based on first;hand observation of the marketing/fashion marketing industry.
• To develop an understanding of the marketing/fashion marketing environment.

Final Project or Report Outline-

As no two students will have the same experiences, the final project will vary.

A project most likely will be built around a major experience during the internship in which the student is given a measure of freedom to complete an assigned task.  For example, a student who is working for a retailer might have the opportunity to assist the Director of Public Relations on an upcoming fashion show.  Thus, her/his project report would include a detailed explanation of the activities performed while working on the show.  A short evaluation by the Director of Public Relations would be included in the report.

All projects must include:
• A written description of the project
• photo;documentation of the project
• a diary of how the project was analyzed
• a summary of the value of the project to the intern and to the company
• a short statement from the employer as to the quality of the work
• any other support materials as deemed necessary to demonstrate the quality of the project

All projects must be:
• typed
• free of technical errors (grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc.)
• well;organized
• neatly bound and/or placed in a folder so that loose materials cannot be lost. These materials will be turned back to the student in the Faculty Center.

INTERNSHIP APPLICATION-

This application must be presented to Wendy Bendoni prior to registration for FMRK/MRKT 490.  In addition to this form, an official application must be picked up at the Registrar's Office, filled out by the student and signed by the student and the employer.  Upon acceptance of the internship, Wendy Bendoni will sign all forms and the official registration form, along with a regular class add form will be taken by the student to the Registrar's Office.

1. What are your objectives for the internship?  How will the internship meet your objectives?

2. What are your career aims and objectives, both immediate and long range?  How will this internship support these objectives?
