An explanation of whether you think advocacy is a vital aspect of social work.

" One of the most important objectives of a social worker is to help people gain needed resources" (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, p. 514). The original mission of social work had much to do with championing the rights of society's most vulnerable members, from children to homeless people to the physically disabled (Advocacy, 2017).

These two citation helps to sum up the answer to the question of advocacy being vital in the social work profession. Change sometimes just need a voice, in most case, big government or organization may not be aware of what is the need at lower levels and that is why a social worker duty as a "change agent" is so important. They are that voice.

Explain the section within the NASW code of ethics requires advocacy of social workers.

From my understanding after reading the NASW code of ethics, there are three major areas that require advocacy of social workers. The first two might seem obvious, service and social justice.

"Social workers draw on their knowledge, values, and skills to help people in need and to address social problems" (NASW, 2008). Under service, it specifies that a social worker has to address social problems and in some cases, they may be required to advocate for changes to those problems.

"Social workers strive to ensure access to needed information, services, and resources; equality of opportunity; and meaningful participation in decision making for all people" (NASW, 2008). This passage is listed under the ethical principle of social change. Lastly, I believe that competence also is an ethical principle that requires advocacy. "Social workers continually strive to increase their professional knowledge and skills and to apply them in practice" (NASW, 2008).

"Advocacy requires both knowledge and skills to be effective" (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, p. 535). Before changes can be made a social worker must have all the information needed before they can attempt to make changes. It is important to gain knowledge of current laws, policies, and regulations before presenting a case for change because you might not know what exactly can or cannot be changed. Pending Law

I selected Senate Bill One. This is an educational bill that will require county boards of education to report certain information relating to the provision of specialized intervention services to the State Department of Education and the General Assembly on or before a certain date each year (MD SB1, 2017).

The reason for this bill is to maintain a database of kids from K-12 who requires specialized intervention in order to succeed in school. By passing this bill the states can have a evidence on the number of students who require extra attentions, this will then be submitted to the state and federal government to provide additional fundings and needed resources to support the high need school areas.

I believe that advocacy is a vital part for social workers, because their helping the clients and the community that their severing giving them a voice providing resource that will assist them and helping them finding the voice, and allowing the to fight for the embitterment of the client and the Community as a whole.

The code of ethic section that I believe that plays a vital role would have to be the importance of human relationship, if you don't have a relationship with your client and the community you want have a good responses when trying to have different events in the community.

The pending law that's happening inside the case would have to be making sure everyone has social justice in their job, in the community, and in their education. Making sure their not being discriminated against.
