In Week 4, we examine a key responsibility in the HRM function, staffing. In his chapter we examine the strategic interface between staffing and organizational planning. We also review and discuss the various means used to screen candidates and conduct candidate interviews. Finally we examine the external factors which affect staffing and the importance of becoming an employer of choice in the marketplace.

1. Discuss the various types of employment: temporary, contingent, contract, permanent and analyze the applications, advantages and disadvantages of each type.
2. What do you feel are the advantages and disdavantages of using a behavioral interviewing model to screen candidates?
3. To ensure that a pre-employment test meets nondiscrimination requirements, what must the organization do? Discuss alternative methods to ensure that the organization is not placed in a liability position by testing candidates.
