In today's society, there is a substantial amount of public opinion concerning our criminal justice system. This includes police and perhaps a need for reform, our courts and our prisons and the need for sentencing reform. In 1987 Supreme Court Justice Warren E. Burger made this famous quote ""Judges ... rule on the basis of law, not public opinion, and they should be totally indifferent to pressures of the times."

Does Justice Burger's statement still apply today? Do we need reform, if so which area needs reform and why? If you feel we do not need reform and our country should proceed as we have, explain why.
