In this week's lecture we discuss how Physicians (..think, Part B; Outpatient; RBRVS; Professional Component; Fee-for-Service/Fee Schedule) are paid for their services. This reimbursement methodology, while similar in structure, is completely different from how Hospitals (...think, Part A; Inpatient; MS-DRGs; Technical Component; PPS) are reimbursed.

You will need to research what challenges/impacts/synergies occur as a result of difference. This may require the use of more than one article. Remember to always use scholarly articles and cite your sources in APA format.

Your article cannot be any older than 2014. So, you must select an article dated between 2014 - 2017.

ARTICLE REVIEW FORMAT

The goal of this exercise is to ensure the student understands and is able to apply the information gathered from the articles chosen. Reading the details is easy – analyzing, synthesizing and applying the information to the Health Information Management role is where the process becomes more intuitive.

The articles should be summarized in four parts:

ISSUE: Please state the issue being described in the article.

METHODOLOGY: please identify the method suggested or used to address the issue described. How was the issue corrected? How should the   problem be resolved? What is the industry best practice?

APPLICATION:  how does the article apply to the Health Information Management professional? What should we be able to do with the information received? Is this an opportunity/awareness for HIM professionals? How does it impact our purpose?

SUMMARY:  summarize the details, including any take-aways from the information you’ve read.
