In this project, you will gain real-world experience in the labor relations field by conducting a Mock Arbitration. The rules set forth in this paper outline the manner of negotiations between the CAC Company and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 3. These rules have been jointly prepared and both parties have agreed to arbitrate the labor contract after face to face negotiations have stalled.

Throughout this project, you will examine the case from three different perspectives and take on three roles. These roles will be of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union (IBEW) Local 3, the CAC Company and the Arbitrator. The premise of this project is that both parties have agreed to arbitrate the labor contract after face to face negotiations have stalled.
Read the Mock Arbitration Instructions (https://content.learntoday.info/eq/b416c/week_01/Mock_Arbitration_Instructions_and_Supplemental_Documents.pdf) that you will need to complete this project. The Mock Arbitration document includes the following information:

a) The demographics of the employees working for CAC Company, which will include pay rates, length of service, and titles.

b) The current contract which will expire on the last day of this month

c) The demands of labor and the issues that will be part of the arbitration

d) The items and issues that the company is willing to take to arbitration and those that they will not consider

e) Current Contract

This project will be completed in three phases.

Phase I - You will play the role of the CAC company representative.

In this role, you will be responsible for detailing the current total cost of labor, under the existing contract, including, benefits, paid time off, and wages. In addition, you will detail what the total cost of a new contract will be if labor were to get all of their demands, and then you will detail what the labor cost will be if the company is successful in arbitration.

Phase II - You will assume the role of the IBEW Local 3 Representative. You will write a paper giving a minimum of five specific reasons why each of the contract demands that have been brought to the table are items that are not negotiable

Phase III - You assume the role of the Mock Arbitrator. You will write a paper in which you make final decisions on the contract issues and state your conclusions based on the facts of the case. Be sure to give specific reasons for your decisions.
