In the context of the 1980s racial climate and the prime time TV market, "The Cosby Show" family, the Hyxtables, represent a significant departure from previous TV racial stereotypes of low-income, lazy, uneducated, hustlers. Despite the fact that the program never truly depicts society or family struggles with racism, it makes great strides by depicting African Americans as full & complex human beings rather than one-dimentional stereotypes.
