In no more than 7 double-spaced pages (using proper APA style, citations and references) plus a concept map, demonstrate your understanding, integration and synthesis of the following nine (9) terms: Human Rights; Social Protection; Risk; Risk Management; Resilience; Vulnerability; Social Justice; Common/Public Good; Public Goods. This paper is to be completed individually. This assignment is worth 45% of the final grade.

4.Use topical headings to structure and organize your paper. Consider organizing your paper by ideas or concepts.

5.Each assignment will consist of a concept map and a narrative consisting of no more than 7 pages, double-spaced. The concept map, cover page and Reference page(s) are not part of the page count.

6.The paper will be evaluated not only for content, but also for composition (grammar, spelling, formatting, logic and flow of ideas). Good writing has a beginning, middle and an end (an introduction, main idea(s), and summary).

Here is the grading rubric for assessing the paper: A The assignment contains all the elements of an exceptional response; Addresses the assignment in a clear, concise, cogent manner; is complete, detailed and thorough.

•The assignment defines and discusses the key ideas and terms using assigned course materials. It explains how the readings, ideas and terms blend, agree and/ or conflict with each other. It contains an evaluative component on the importance, relevance, and significance, or lack thereof, of the terms and/ or ideas.

•Content is presented clearly. There is logic and flow of ideas in the assignment. The content of the concept map is integrated into the essay, not just attached or appended.

•There is sophistication in the writing and presentation of material.

•Composition is excellent (a beginning, middle and end or summary). Minimal spelling and grammatical errors. B The assignment contains most of the elements of an above average response; Addresses the assignment with detail and depth but some weakness is evident.

•The assignment defines and discusses most of the key ideas and terms using assigned course materials. EITHER it explains incompletely how the readings, ideas and terms blend, agree and/ or conflict with each other, OR it contains an incompletely developed evaluative component on the importance, relevance, and significance, or lack thereof, the terms and/ or ideas.

•Content is presented clearly; the logic and flow of ideas may be incomplete and/ or rough at point(s). The concept map is attached or appended but insufficiently discussed.

•Writing and presentation of material is good.

•Composition is good (a beginning, middle and end or summary).Spelling and grammar has some errors but do not detract from the work. C The assignment contains the elements of an average response; Minimally addresses the assignment with obvious weaknesses.

•The assignment defines and discusses some, but not all, of the key ideas and terms using assigned course materials.

It explains incompletely how the readings, ideas and terms blend, agree and/ or conflict with each other, AND it contains an incomplete evaluative component on the importance, relevance, and significance, or lack thereof, the terms and/ or ideas. Neither of these elements is complete.

•The logic and flow of ideas is choppy, and detracts from the presentation of material.

•Writing and presentation of material is lacking, and/or does not flow logically.

The concept map is attached or appended but not discussed.

•Composition shows some errors and problems: spelling and grammar have errors that detract from the work but are not fatal flaws. D The assignment contains the elements of a below average response; Does not address the assignment.

•The basic, required content addressing the assignment is missing. The assignment is missing the key ideas and terms from across the course readings. It fails to explain how the readings, ideas and terms blend, agree and/ or conflict with each other. It is missing an evaluative component on the importance, relevance, and significance, or lack thereof, the terms and/ or ideas.

•The presentation of ideas does not flow and is incomplete. Statements made without substantiation or explanation. In-text citations are missing are incomplete.

•Writing and presentation of material is poor - poor grammar, bad sentence structure and/ or composition. Spelling and grammatical errors not only detract from but are fatal flaws in the composition.
