For my analysis, I am looking at public organizations, the City of St. Louis in particular. The reasoning for choosing public organizations was mainly centered around the wealth of information that public organizations have freely available. Getting more into the City of St. Louis it self, it oversees many facets of life and activities going on in the St. Louis area. With well over 100 departments, it manages all common public organizations such as public safety and education as well as other departments such as public works or tourism.

Looking at the 3 variables, one glaring one is the sheer size of the City of St. Louis. With over 100 departments and over 20,000 public employees alone it is quite large. The size variable is most seen then with centralization in mind. As the city grew responsibilities were held less with the governing body and were instead delegated to departments to more efficiently run these functions.

Another variable to consider is technology since it is an ever growing topic and field. As with most organizations, be they public, private, or non-profit, you would usually expect efficient strategies and innovation to be very important and this includes the City of St. Louis. With several departments dedicated to various fields of technology including Information Technology and Emerging Technology the city is very concerned with technology and strives to meet the increasing demands of a more technological world.

Last major variable I wish to mention is strategy and goals. The overall goal of the City of St. Louis is to provide a prosperous and safe place to live for citizens and this effects its governing body's attitudes towards many topics. From crime, taxes, happiness, and dozens more, the city must be concerned with all these facets of the city. After knowing the demographics of the people and changing trends, the city must alter its strategy and goals to better meet that of the people. For example, if one day Baseball died out and the stadium was getting less than 100 viewers a game should the city continue to to hold games at such a huge facility? In my opinion they probably would not and that is because the city must constantly be aware of changes in its citizens and make proper adjustments where needed. To that end, it cannot be functionally fixated and must be flexible.
