If my adventure/drama has moments of respite where "main side characters" (travel companions/family) interact with the MC and their dialogue does not add to or advance the main plot, but a) develops side characters and relationships, b) adds to subplot and side character arcs, and/or c) informs the MC (1st POV) of facts or events she did not witness, is that still considered "filler" because it does nothing to advance the story, or is it "good filler" useful for slowing pace?
