Identify an independent business that you feel could serve as a good franchising opportunity. Prepare an outline of the feasibility study of that business. The framework for the study should include, but not be limited to:

  • Business description
  •   Analyze various components and elements of the business that make it a compelling franchise opportunity.
    • Describe the basic operations of the business.
  • Market feasibility
  •   Market description (geographic, psychographic, and demographic profiles)
    • Competitors (current local competition, as well as likely competitors following expansion)
      Market potential
      Sales projections
  • Prototype feasibility
  •
    • SDS
Needs for replication (site location and access to target market)
  • Financial feasibility
  •
    • Estimate of total capital requirements
      Managerial feasibility
      Business structure

This outline should include as much detail as necessary to determine if the independent business makes a good candidate for a franchising opportunity. For the purpose of this assignment, the business that has been identified and the subsequent feasibility study needs to support the decision to franchise and grow.

The following questions are meant to guide you in your analysis of the business. It is not necessary for you to provide answers for these questions directly but they should be considered and answered as part of your analysis.

  • Does the identified business have the SDS that provides it a competitive advantage over its competitors?
Is the business likely to be competitive in the future based on market analysis?
Are there any significant barriers in the entry of competitors in the market or the industry?
  • Are there any special technological needs for this business, such as specialized equipment, building needs, production facilities, or other needs, that need to be considered during the start-up process?
Does the staff recruited in the business require any special technical skills?
Will the start-up and other capital costs of the business be significantly higher or lower than other similar projects?
What will the organizational structure look like? What will the staffing requirement be?
