I have a really good example of ageism and it comes from where I work. About two years ago they hired this man that is close to 60 years old, and they knew then that is was not in the best of health or shape for his age. They did not really say anything to him about his job performance until about a month ago, and now they are always on him about not keeping up with his work. They knew that he probably was not right for this type of work because it is really hard to do at times but they hired him anyway and gave him a fairly easy job in the beginning. If he did not have health and weight problems then he would not have any problem doing the job because of his age. Now they are doing anything and everything just to get rid of him, and putting him on really hard machines. He is a really nice man and tries his hardest to do the best that he can do. He is never out and always does anything they tell him to do. I do not think that it is fair to make him do things on purpose that the bosses knows he is not capable of doing just to get rid of him, because they hired him knowing about his health and weight problems. I think they are just wanting to get someone in there younger and in better health, but the problem I see is that even though he does have some issues, he is very loyal to the company and they could at least give him the same respect, and find him a job that he could do. because after all they did hire him knowing what he could and could not do. The younger ones usually do not even last a week or two, and then they end up having to hire someone else and train them.
