I am going to push back a bit on the statement that God gave us evil and suffering. By his very nature, God is good. Because that is his nature, he cannot act against his nature, so he will never act in accordance with anything that is bad or evil.

Evil is not an entity or element. Evil is an absence of God's goodness. Hence, it is not something that was created. God did not create good and evil. God is good, and everything he created was good (Genesis 1:9, 12, 21, 25, 31). We can identify people's actions as evil, and even at times sense that someone's character is evil, but evil in and of itself is not a created entity. It is a description of something (an adjective or adverb), rather than an object (a noun).

Out of his love and goodness, God created people with free will and the choice to reject him. Creating people as robots would not have demonstrated true love and goodness because it would have only allowed for obedience and love from obligation. When people choose to separate themselves from God's goodness this allows space for non-goodness, which we term evil. It is only because we have an absolute standard of goodness and holiness (God's character) that we can assess something as evil or bad. Without a standard against which to measure something, there is not a way to assess it. Without a standard, everything only be based on personal opinion.

Does that make sense?
