I - LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Write a letter to the editor of whichever newspaper or online news source you frequently refer to (e.g., The New York Times, The Daily News, CNN, Fox News). Here are the guidelines you should follow:

- Please note: You have to actually read through some of the articles in the newspaper or news source you choose and RESPOND to one of the articles - that is what defines a letter to the editor from just an opinion.
- Please only respond to food, farm, agriculture, community or health-related articles or postings that have something to do with food politics of policy.
- You do not actually have to post or send the letter! This is just a homework assignment. However, if you would like to consider sending it, I can give you feedback prior to your submission.
- Be sure to include the title of the news source, title of the article, date of publication (within the past 6 months), and if applicable, the author's name
2 - SHORT ESSAY:
In the article "Agriculture policy is health policy," Jackson et al. (2009) discuss the Farm Bill and how it influences three major public health issues. Explain the following in a 300-word essay (you will lose points if you write in bullet form):
- Explain what the authors mean when they say "agriculture policy is health policy."
- Give 2 specific examples of how the Farm Bill can be changed or has recently been changed to reverse trends of rising obesity.
- Give 2 specific examples of how the Farm Bill can be changed/has recently been changed to improve food safety.
- Give 2 specific examples of how the Farm Bill can be changed/has recently been changed to reduce exposure totoxic substances and pesticides.
- Explain the one change in agriculture policy you think would result in the biggest health improvements.
