Of the seven deadly sins, sloth, avarice (or greed), and lust, are the three that seem to get the most attention form the media today. It seems obvious that these three would be the media's darlings because we live in a world that celebrates getting what someone else has and doing as little as possible to achieve it. When we think of sloth we think of laziness. "Sloth is opposed to the great Christian virtue of diligence-that powerful sense of responsibility, dedication to hard work, and conscientious completion of one's duty" (Konyndyk-DeYoung p.81). When we think of what is good, sloth does not come to mind. What is good is the opposite of sloth, hard work and a sense of doing a good job. Too many people today want to get what they want without doing the hard work and think it should be handed to them.

Avarice is a "sin" in the fact that we want more and more. More money, money fame, money anything. We want it all, greed is "is an extensive love or desire for money or anything money can buy" (Konyndyk-DeYoung p.100). Wanting anything and everything is not what would be considered good. Goodness is having only what we need and helping others.

Of these three, lust is the one that gets the most publicity. God created us as sexual beings and sex is to be enjoyed in the confines of marriage, but lust changes that. "Lust makes sexual pleasure all about me" (Konyndyk-DeYoung p.164). Lust is outside of the design God had for us and the media and the world will doanything it can to promote this me first mentality.
