The purpose of holding orientation and training sessions is to provide new employees with the skills they need to perform their jobs successfully.

It is important for HR to accomplish basic company details during the orientation process; such as; make the employee feel welcome, give them basic company information (emails/policies/expectations), and help them to understand the culture and vision of the organization (Dessler, 2013, p. 244).

AFLAC has a significant web presence that should flow from online training and goal setting to education (AFLAC, 2017). Continued use of online services should remain an important aspect of employee training and retention programs.

Since I am designing an initial orientation/training session for a large number of diverse, recent college graduates, I would utilize a "blended learning" program. Our training program would include diversity training (which correspond to our core values), e-learning, lectures, and webinars to accomplish both orientation and training goals (Dessler, 2013, p.260).

Our new hires are relatively outgoing and active; therefore I believe beneficial components to help train our new sales force (keep them engaged and motivated) would be through socialization and team training (Dessler, 2013,p.262). By learning to work together, the new hires could get to know one another and develop respect and rapport.

As mentioned in our module notes, employers would be at a disadvantage if they do not create a climate that embraces a diverse workforce (Excelsior, n.d.). By team building, they could foster a more harmonious working relationship and avoid any unnecessary prejudgments (Dessler, 2013, p.262).

Lastly, by using blended training methods, giving positive reinforcement (to achieve strategic goals), and by issuing controlled experimentations; AFLAC could gauge the results periodically to determine the program's effectiveness. IE: If sales numbers continue to rise after periodic training programs, then they should be seen as effective.
