Homeland Security Briefing: Issues, Roles and Objectives

Prior to beginning work on this assignment, read Chapters 4 and 9 in the Martin (2015) text, and access and review the Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Intelligence Community websites.

For this assignment,

You have been asked to brief members of the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Intelligence Community (IC) on certain items, below indicated, that pertain to issues, roles, and objectives associated with homeland security.

You will prepare a slide presentation that is based on material and objectives associated with the Summative Assignment in Week Six.

It is recommended that you use PowerPoint, or a similar slide presentation software. It is also recommended that you access Garr Reynolds' Top Ten Slide Tips and PowerPoint Tips which provide useful assistance with creating successful PowerPoint presentations.

With respect to format, you must prepare five content slides, in addition to title and references slides. Each slide shall contain words or sentences. Pictures, photographs and video content are not permitted.

The content slides should highlight the main points illustrated below. This assignment is intended to demonstrate your ability to write succinctly and to effectively communicate concepts and analyses.

To this end, you must include speaker's notes in the "Click to add notes" section at the bottom of each slide.in, which will further explain the slide's topic. Each content slide should contain approximately five succinct main points. The speaker's notes for each content slide should contain approximately at least 100 words. Each slide should reflect distinct organizational and creative efforts.

Please perform the following:

First slide, explain how various agencies at federal, state and local levels work to mitigate hostilities, hazards, threats and consequences. Please ensure that federal, state and local levels are represented.

For the second slide, examine the skills to identify, evaluate, and resolve complex policy issues.

The third slide should contain an analysis of the methods of the most effective response systems.

For the fourth slide, evaluate the ethical and legal issues that arise in response to Homeland Security actions.

For the fifth slide, differentiate the organizational mandates of the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Intelligence Community within the context of homeland security objectives.
