Home telehealth (home telemedicine, in-home telehealth ) is a subfield within telehealth. It involves the delivery of healthcare services to patients at home through the use of telecommunications technologies, which enable the interaction of voice, video, and health-related data.

Day Hospital a special facility, or an arrangement within a hospital setting, that enables the patient to come to the hospital for treatment during the day and return home or to another facility at night.

For each of the healthcare alternatives defined above--Home Telehealth, and Day Hospital, you are to answer the following:

Part 1.

Define and explain why the existence of Home Telehealth and the Day Hospital is viable

How does the structure of each work and who is responsible?

How are each of the alternatives funded/supported and what payment system is utilized.

What is the impact of each alternative with regard to managed care (Medicare and Medicaid)

Part 2-1

How has the insurgence of each of these alternatives financially impacted hospitals?

Is the result a more cost effective health service, a higher quality service, both, or neither. Defend your answer.

Part 2-2

Your client has the following attributes:

(a) a just diagnosed patient with lung cancer

(b) in rural America

(c) with no direct access to a major hospital or cancer center and

(d) with limited funds and basic health insurance.

He/she is looking for the “best care” and “cure” but not sure where to go. What would you suggest (of the alternatives discussed above) and why?
