Here's a contract scenario for all of you to debate this week:

The defendants in this case were students in an entrepreneurship course at Chabot two years ago. For their final class project, they developed a business plan for "Chabot To Go", a deli across the street from campus that offers wireless internet connections, great food, and lots of caffeine-all at reasonable prices. The entrepreneurship course was taught by two instructors in a team-teaching environment. They were not impressed with the "Chabot To Go" business plan, but agreed to give the students an A on the project if the students promised to give them free food at "Chabot To Go" if the business plan was ever implemented. The students said "sure", and both received an A for the course.

It's now two years later. The former students just opened Chabot To Go, and it's a huge success. The entrepreneurship instructors come for their free food, and the students decline to give it to them. The instructors hire a flashy attorney, Gary Greedy, and sue the students for breach of contract. The students hire their own attorney, Lisa Legal, to defend them in court. The judge (that's me) is looking forward to an interesting case!

Time to debate! If your last name begins with the letters A-M, you are one of the plaintiffs (instructors), and need to provide your best arguments to support your claim that this contract is valid and enforceable. If your last name begins with the letters N-Z, you are one of the defendants (students), and need to provide your best arguments to support your claim that this contract is either not valid, or should be unenforceable even if it is valid. Get creative, do some research, impress the judge with your legal arguments.

My last name begins with N so you are going to work on it as student.
