The source I found was a news article over the amount of homelessness in San Diego. How I found it was doing a simple Google search looking to find the homeless population in San Diego. I chose to use this article because of the information it offers me. It offers stats on a few other cities such as New York City and Los Angeles. This article supports my argument stating there needs to be a change in the homeless shelters in the city of San Diego. Below is a paraphrased statement from the article showing differences between two major cities.

As Wilkens (2017) states, "there are over 9,000 homeless people in San Diego County being the fourth largest population in the nation. New York City is the number one in the nation except 95% of their homeless are sheltered. Only about 40% homeless individuals are sheltered in San Diego County." I chose this to paraphrase because of what I stated earlier it helps show comparison between two major cities.

The original work from Wilkens (2017) is, "With 9,160 homeless people, the county has the fourth-largest population of any region in the nation, trailing only New York City (76,501). Fifth in the percentage of homeless individuals who are unsheltered, 61.6 percent. Overall, 68.2 percent of the homeless in California are unsheltered, the highest rate of any state. New York, by contrast, has almost 95 percent of its homeless living in shelters." I chose to paraphrase this because numbers are hard evidence and that helps open people's eyes as opposed to just saying a lot of people.
